Key Laboratory for Magnetism and Magnetic Materials of the Ministry of Education rely on Lanzhou University, was affirmed by the Ministry of Education on August 17th 2000 before Opening up.

The Key Lab covers with afirst-level disciplines conferring doctoral of physics and 4 first-level physical disciplines conferring doctoral (Condensed Matter Physics,Theoretical Physics, Material Science of Physics and Chemistry, Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics) and apost-doctoral mobilestationsof the first-level physical disciplines.

Our research activities always emphasize in the fields of low-dimensions magnetic materials and new type materials applied for information, energy, luminescence, and has formed two characteristic study projects on micro-electromagnetic properties of materials and high-frequency and soft-magnetism films. Currently, the research fields and activities includes the Physics and technology of magnetic recording, micro-electromagnetic properties of materials, multilayer films and magnetic electronics, the theory of magnetism and electronic structure calculations, new functionalmaterial and application, etc.

The Key Lab advocates the advancement of science though an open community that efficiently shares scientific resources by strengthening both domestic and international academic communications and by establishing stable channels of scientific cooperation.Currently there are44facultymembers, including 14professors, 16associateprofessors. Among them, 82% is young persons. The Key Lab is widening the scope of scientific research and training talents by undertaking projects such as the “973” and “863” Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Project of the National Natural Science Foundation, the Key Projects ofMinistry of Educationand Gansu Province, and some projects from corporations, etc. Moreover, the graduate students are well recognized and praised by various fields for their solid academic foundation, wide-range knowledge and industry.
